The Gur Shabad Keertan app serves as a significant resource for enhancing the teaching and learning of Gurmat music. Tailored for accessibility, this application caters to users whether or not they have access to traditional instruments, facilitating a rich learning experience wherever they are.

Its development was inspired by the wealth of knowledge contained in seminal texts authored by esteemed composers and raagis, such as Dr. Gurnam Singh Ji, Bhai Avtar Singh Ji, and Gurcharan Singh Ji. While these texts include invaluable notations across various taals within designated raagas, beginners often struggle with their complexity. To address this challenge, the app integrates a plethora of online video resources contributed by numerous Kirtanias.

Features:

• The app includes a comprehensive notation player that displays Taal, Notes, Gurbani in notation format, and the complete form of Gurbani.
• Essential instruments such as Tanpura, Tabla, Harmonium, Rabab, and Sur Peti are included, with additional instruments like Sur Mandal and Manjira planned for future updates.
• Users are introduced to the 31 Raags of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, including new compositions created by Dr. Gurnam Singh Ji.
• For each Raag, essential elements like Aaroh, Avroh, Pakad notations, Sur Vishars, and one beginner-level composition are available.
• The app employs a level-based approach to learning these raags, suggesting that beginners start with Raags from Bilawal Thaat.
• Notations can be exported in PDF format to encapsulate all relevant information including Raag details and instructor notes. For users on other platforms due to iOS/iPadOS limitations, audio loops of the notations can still be exported.
• MIDI file exportation is available for user convenience when working within preferred DAWs.
• The capability to share notations enhances collaboration; instructors can easily pass on materials to students for practice.
• Recording options allow users to capture audio performances and facilitate productive feedback exchanges between instructors and students. A unique feature enables both audio and screen recording for thorough reviews of Sur, Taal, Gurbani while assessing timing and pronunciation accuracy.
• An intuitive Tabla/Jodi player is integrated into the app featuring commonly used taals within Gurmat music.
• A sophisticated pitch monitor aids users in vocal practice and instrument tuning. (Note: Another application developed previously called SaajTuner will soon be decommissioned as its functions will be incorporated into Gur Shabad Keertan.)
• This app is made possible by BaniDB—the most precise Gurbani database provided by Khalis Foundation—allowing users to access complete Shabads along with transliteration and translation features all in one platform.
